Episode 29: The Streetrunner Interview

If you’ve been paying attention, then you know that Streetrunner has been absolutely killing it for well over a decade. He’s produced for anyone who’s anyone, including Meek Mill’s “What’s Free” featuring Jay-Z and Rick Ross. But I’m catching up with Streetrunner today to talk about his work producing the Mega EP with Cormega. The last episode, you got Cormega’s perspective on the critically-acclaimed EP and now, you’ll get Streetrunner’s take. He talks about how he’d been trying to work with Cormega back in the Landspeed days, how they put the Mega EP together, his approach to production, the story behind “What’s Free,” and much more. Hit the link in the interview to keep up with Streetrunner and, if you haven’t done so, go check the Cormega interview after you listen to this one.

Diabolic Interview: Straight Diabrolic (The Complete Interview)

Diabolic - The WeGoinIN Interview

“Brace yourself for impact, I’m raising hell with syntax/Like Satan’s cast an ancient spell on this track,” Diabolic rhymes on “Diabolical Sound,” his lead single off Fightin’ Words, his second debut album. Those lyrics not only sum up where the Long Island product has been, from murking rappers in battles to killing international stages, to where he’s going, as he continues working on new music and getting his label, Warhorse Records, off the ground. WeGoinIN catches up with Diabolic to get his take on Action Bronson and Ghostface, Meek and Drake, what he wishes he’d done to Tyler, the Creator and Odd Future, his hidden verse on Immortal Technique’s “Dance with the Devil,” finally talk about his sophomore record, and find out where he’s going. Ever the salty bastard, his responses are as candid and honest as his music.

This is the complete interview.

It’s always good to catch up with you and I know you’ve been recording a lot of new music. Before we get into that, what do you think about what’s been going on with Drake and Meek Mill?

(laughs) I wasn’t really thinking about it, but if you go on Facebook or Twitter, you’ve got everybody else thinking about it fucking constantly, which is weird to me because I didn’t really think or know that the people that followed me actually liked that garbage. I don’t know. I thought it was pretty fucking pathetic, to be honest. I went and listened to it. I did. It was really bad. It was bad. I think it’s fucking corny. Now you got Meek Mill apologizing for his tactics, which is the fucking lame thing I’ve ever heard in my life. What happened to people punching each other in the face and beating the shit out each other at shows, talking shit on records, calling people’s names out, really insulting them? It’s just fucking lame. I don’t know. But everybody else seems to think it’s fucking impressive. Maybe I’m bugging out. I think it’s gay and corny.

So you weren’t waiting for Meek’s response record.

No. I’ve always thought that guy was terrible. I thought he was terrible when he had his little stint doing battles back in the day. He was fucking awful. I’m not into that version of fucking rap, personally. It’s not my cup of tea. I get why people like it. Everything has its place. But it’s really not my cup of tea.

Did you see him battle?

There’s videos on YouTube. It’s horrible. He babbles about nothing. He literally says nothing. Every time. Every time he battles that guy says nothing.

You’re no stranger to battles and that scene. If you call someone out and they drop records about you, how long do you have to get a response record back before it’s too late?

I mean now, with the shelf life of music now, you better have that shit in the fucking stash before you even call him out. I mean, the shelf life of music just gets shorter every day. I guess when it’s buzzing, you’ve just gotta come out firing. I understand dude’s on the road, but you’ve got plenty of fucking money. You Can stop in any studio and go in and record something. And the shit that he dropped was just fucking terrible. I mean, Drake’s wasn’t much better. I guess he rapped a little more. It was still pretty weak. It’s not even battle raps. It’s hard to explain. It’s cheesy. If that was me, I would really be getting in somebody’s ass with that. You’ve gotta go for the fucking throat, you know? Literally this is the worst rp beef in the history of hip-hop, basically.

What did you think of Ghostface’s response to Action Bronson?

Oh Shit Meek Mill Disses Drake Again

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TDjcfx1_zkU

Meek talks about how there are fake people on the internet and how he’s with Nicki and calls out Drake for his masculinity. His mom held guns, Drake’s mom called the cops. Real dudes don’t buy Drake music. There’s also a Jimmy reference. Degrassi forever.

And for the record, Meek’s gotta do a lot more in terms of rhymes to get back what he lost.
