Grabbing a classic Pete Rock beat like this takes some guts because it’s one of those cases where you might be biting off more than you can chew in the sense that you get completely outshined by the instrumental, similar to all the MCs who have tried unsuccessfully to drop a verse to Jay’s “U Don’t Know.” UnLearn goes for it here to prove he’s an honorary Soul Survivor.

Here’s a new banger from UnLearn along with his email, which I find fascinating. UnLearn and I have been working together for five years now and his wife has never found out about his Tubgirl obsession. I put him on to Tubgirl and he was able to hide it from wifey for that long. That’s amazing. The first time I found Tubgirl I remember printing out the picture and sending it to all my family members. Some of them didn’t get it…weird. Anyway, here’s the email along with the song:

“I love how frequently you guys update the new site. So far, I’ve counted about 5 or so tubgirl references. I finally had to put my wife on to what it was. Needless to say, she looked at me like a sicko.”

Just keep showing her pictures as much as you can. She’ll eventually grow to love and accept Tubgirl like a sister.

UnLearn’s been one of my favorite MCs ever since Sara Kana made him send me his demo back in ’04. I remember it sitting in a stack of CDs for awhile, because let’s face it, I had a lot of important things to do back then, like learn all the shortcuts on my Sidekick 1 and make sure my Dipset mixtape collection was up-to-date. The Sidekick tried mating with my iPod and some sort of magnets messed up the screen and I don’t even know who’s officially in Dipset today and who’s disappeared, vamanos, vato, but what I do know is that UnLearn is still holding it down:

“I’m into sex, boxing, Pay-Per-View and Malcolm X/
Readin’ the Koran while I’m watching American Pimp/
I’m conflicted, then again, who isn’t?/
Show me someone who ain’t sinning and I’ll show you a bullshitter.”

I’m not sure if homie does sex, boxing, Pay-Per-View and reads about Malcolm X and the Koran while watching American Pimp, but if he does, well, even more props. I’m only half-good at some of those things and I’m honestly afraid of what would happen if I tried doing more than two things at once. That’s what she said.
